FAQ

What is the Modo Yoga community all about?

Modo Yoga is a community of independent hot yoga studios, guided by our 6 Pillars, united by our love for yoga, and dedicated to creating a more sustainable world. With over 80 locations across North America, Europe and Australia – every studio is a place for all. We welcome all bodies and all abilities, whether you are a beginner or an experienced student.

What is Modo Yoga?

All Modo Yoga classes are built on the foundation of our Modo series – a dynamic system of postures and breathing exercises specifically designed to be practiced in the heat. Modo classes are accessible to all, from beginners to advanced students. A typical Modo class will have around 40 postures. Each class is intended to open, strengthen and relax the entire body.

What's the best class to try for my first yoga class ever?

We recommend starting with Modo classes, which aim to be at all levels. We encourage you to speak with your teacher before or after class class to ask questions or for modifications.

How hot is Modo Yoga?

Classes are headed to around 37 degrees celsius with about 40% humidity. External weather conditions and the number of students in the class can have an effect on the temperature inside the room. If you’ve never practiced hot yoga before it might feel quite hot during your first class, but over time, your body will acclimatize to the heat. Students are encouraged move through each class at their own pace, taking rest and water when needed. For the best experience, make sure you've eaten a snack at least 2 hours before class, so you arrive nourished but not full.

Is a Modo Yoga a cardio workout?

Yup, it sure is!

I'm the least flexible person in the entire world...

We've definitely heard that before! Being the least flexible person in the entire world is the best reason to try a Modo Yoga class! But really, don’t worry if you can't touch your toes or balance on one foot – flexibility will come with time. You don’t have to be flexible to try your first class.

What should I wear?

Wear something that you feel comfortable in that is easy to move around in. You will probably sweat a lot, so lightweight, breathable materials that will absorb sweat and dry quickly are best. Shorts or leggings, a tee-shirt or a tank top are all great options.

What should I bring?

You'll need a yoga mat and water for class. You might also want a mat towel, depending on how much you sweat. We have filtered water available at the studio so BYOB – bring your own bottle! We also have mason jars available for purchase if you forget yours. Let's practice the Be Green pillar by avoiding single use plastic. We also recommend bringing a change of clothes for after class – did we mention you'll sweat a lot?!

Can I rent a towel or mat?

Please bring your own yoga towel, but we have yoga mats available for rent. If you need to purchase a yoga towel, we have them available at the Modo Boutique.

How long are Modo Yoga classes?

Hot yoga classes are typically 60 minutes long. We have a variety of workshops and series at various lengths, so please check the schedule to see what works for you!

When should I arrive for class?

15 minutes before the class begins, especially if it is your first class. Class begins on time and doors may be locked 2 minutes before class.

I'm running late for class...

Stuff happens – we totally get it! But unfortunately, we can't let latecomers in once class has started. Every class starts and ends on time to help provide a peaceful experience for all.

Can I chat with my friend in the hot room (even if it's just a whisper)?

The hot room is a space where students meditate, decompress, and ground before and after class. We honour the Be Peace pillar by asking that all students refrain from conversation in the practice room. We welcome community connection and encourage students to quietly chat outside the hot room or at reception. If there's something that you need during your class, please let the teacher know so they can best support your practice.

I feel dizzy in class...

If you feel unwell at any point in your class, we've got you! Start by taking a resting position on your mat and take slow sips of water. If you need to leave the room, please stay close to the studio door as the teacher will be checking in with you. You may feel dizzy for a number of reasons, possibly from dehydration, low blood sugar, or an pre-existing health condition. It's always good to check with your health practitioner to see if hot yoga is right for you. Let your teacher know if there's anything health-related that we should be aware of. We keep all student information confidential.

How old do you have to be to attend class?

For health and safety reasons our minimum age requirement is 16 years old.

What are some of the benefits of hot yoga?

Hot yoga can benefit our cardiovascular health, increasing our lung capacity, helping us get stronger and more flexible, while training our nervous system to better cope with stress and can have positive impacts on our sleep and coping with anxiety, depression, and the stresses of everyday life.

What's your cancellation policy?
